Commission Information
The Quirky Zipper's commissions focus on creating unique, customized bags tailored to each client's wants, and needs, with the main goal being to serve creatives who have accessibility needs.
STEP 1: What are you looking to make?
The Quirky Zipper offers three types of commissions:
-
Critter Commissions
Insects, mammals, and everything in between! I can make any species you'd like into a bag, fit with details made special for each commission.
-
Customs & Commissions
Themed bags, cosplays, or re-creates; they can all be done! Let’s bring an animated favorite to life, create the perfect piece to finish off a costume, or create something made for you and only you!
-
Second Chance Stuffy Commissions
All of your stuffies in the attic deserve a new life! Send your stuffies my way to convert to a bag who can join you for new adventures!
Below are the bag shapes and sizes that are used as structures for commissioned pieces! Choose a size, shape, and strap arrangement, keeping in mind that the prices of each are BASE prices, before taking design, customizations and materials into mind.
I always use 1”, 100% cotton webbing for straps, for wider straps, $10 will be added to the finalized price.
Based on the type of commission, fill out the below form! Be sure to give me any details you might want to include such as pockets, fabric textures to use or avoid, hardware, and fabric colors!
STEP 2: Contract & Deposit
AFTER you submit a commission form, The Artist will reach out with a contract. This contract will offer a quoted price (which is not a final commission price), and an estimated project start time.
Once you sign this contract and submit a $50 deposit (which comes off of your finalized price), your commission slot will be secured!! Submit this deposit to one of the following tags:
(side note: please do not send a deposit or sign a contract until you have submitted a form, and have received further instruction from The Artist. The contract is linked below for reference.)
STEP 3: Sketches
Within one week of the project’s estimated start time, the artist will reach out to begin sketching. The sketching process is done in 3 rounds.
1st Round of Sketches:
These sketches are all about the functional aspects of the bag. Solidifying all of the zippers, pockets, snaps, moving parts, dimensions and other functionality aspects of your bag. If your request is more complicated, we might also explore these options in the second round of sketching.
2nd Round of Sketches:
Here the artist will supply you with Color Sketches. 2-4 options will be laid out for you, All color options or design options to choose between. The client is welcome to choose from these options as a “mix-n-match”: taking elements from one sketch and combining them with aspects of another if they wish, or they can just tell the artist which number they prefer, and move onto the third and final round!
3rd Round of Sketches:
Now the client will be receiving Mock-up Sketches! The Mock-up Sketches will be sketches of the general bag the client has asked for, with the design elements which have now all been agreed upon. The Mock-Up sketch will offer a 360 degree turnaround of the piece, as well as top and bottom if applicable.
With this final Sketch, The Artist will provide the finalized price, as well as a Finish Date by which the bag will be done, and full payment is expected.
STEP 4: Payment
The artist doesn’t require payment for commissions until the bag is complete. However, if the client would like to set up a payment plan or payment installments for the piece, the artist is more than happy to set up a payment system that can be completed throughout the build process. (Often the commission process can take 2-4 weeks, so 2-3 weekly installments can be set up. other arrangements are welcome as well.)
All final payments are handled through The Quirky Zipper website. Clients will be given a password to the shop tab where all commissions are purchased. The client is only permitted to purchase the items they commissioned from the artist. The site is compatible with most debit/credit cards using Stripe, purchases can also be made through PayPal.
